Below are the final images of the chosen model:
Dynamic | Placid
Above ground form is inspired by the word : DYNAMIC
Material choice was based on the word, and were meant to contrast each other greatly.
Underground form is inspired by the word : PLACID
Gentle linear lines are used to give the feeling of serenity.
Attached are the 3 animation clips of the sectional cuts from 3 different angles that features a better idea of the interior space.
Inspired from the word "Dynamic" and the works of Richard Goodwin, the created form was the expression of my feelings when I observed his works. The facade is basically pieced together like a mismatched puzzle, in relation to this particular art from him which transpired the given word. The bigger voids of the pieces form the galleries while the two forms on each side are the enclosed studios for the artists. A mix of opposing materials was purposefully chosen so as to convey a vigorous finish.
The underground space concept was developed from the word "Placid", a feeling I got from a particular piece of work by Ricky Swallow. His works mostly transcend a mixed emotion of a tranquil thought and morbidity, with most of his works in relation to living organisms. Linear platforms hovering over a water based setting are purposefully tilted and skewed at different angles to give a form of encasement of space while at the same time not having an obstructed view of the ripples below. The unconcealed spaces were designed to be airy underground studios for the 2 artists. Linear material textures were used to complete the atmosphere of the place, emphasizing on the lengths of the platforms.
